New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is getting somewhat of a day off on Monday. Following the first batter of the Yankees' day game against the Oakland Athletics, Boone was ejected from the game by home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt. The only problem? Boone didn't do anything.
After the first batter of the game, Boone was warned by Wendelstedt to not say another word. So, he obliged.

However, a fan behind the Yankees dugout had some words for Wendelstedt, and without fact-checking who said those words, Wendelstedt ejected Boone from the game.

...
Boone was not happy, and understandably so. Here's a video of the ejection from Dillard Barnhart on X, which features an extremely hot mic of Boone yelling at Wendelstedt.
The television cameras were on Boone during the incident, which makes it that much better. Fans at home can see Boone not saying anything, before hearing Wendelstedt throw him out of the game.
Boone runs up to Wendelstedt to say it wasn't him who said anything, and Wendelstedt responds by saying, "I don't care."
Boone then says, "What do you mean you don't care? I did not say a word," before pointing to a fan behind the dugout who was responsible for whatever Wendelstedt didn't like.
Then, he had some choice words for Wendelstedt, which you can hear from the hot mic. But his main point: "I did not say a word."
Boone is no stranger to being ejected. Last year, he led the American League with seven ejections and was tied with Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell for the most in Major League Baseball.
In 2022, Boone was again the leader with ejections, this time standing alone at the top with nine. And in 2021, Boone had six ejections, which was tied with Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin for most in the American League. Jayce Tingler of the San Diego Padres led all of Major League Baseball with seven.
While Boone has had his fair share of ejections, this one is definitely unfair. The home plate umpire made a mistake and acted rashly by throwing him out for hearing something from that side of the field.
Either way, for the rest of Monday's game, the Yankees will be without their manager. They'll look to keep their winning ways going, as they currently sit at 15-7, first place in the American League East (and in the Newsweek Power Rankings).
