The New York Yankees have a hole at third base. After an injury to Oswaldo Cabrera that resulted in an ambulance being needed on Monday night, their needs continue to grow, and they may be able to give a disgruntled rival a home and the position he wants.

The Yankees and Boston Red Sox seldom make blockbuster trades together following the deal that sent Babe Ruth to the Yankees and a curse to the Red Sox. These two teams have a burning hatred for each other that makes trading with each other difficult, but it has been done before.

Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers has put the organization's feet to the fire with his comments regarding the Alex Bregman signing and, most recently, his refusal to switch from designated hitter to first base after Triston Casas went down with an injury. Ken Rosenthal from The Athletic wrote, "the idea of a trade at some point isn't all that far-fetched," prompting a discourse regarding the future of Devers in Boston.

In come the Yankees, the storied rival of the Red Sox during their lengthy histories and a potential home for one of Boston's biggest stars. The Yankees were linked to St. Louis Cardinals' third baseman, Nolan Arenado, for a good portion of the offseason, but a deal was never done, leaving the Yankees with Oswaldo Cabrera. Following his injury and the disgruntled Devers, the Yankees could be a dark-horse landing spot for one of their biggest rivals.

Devers would fit in with the short porch at Yankee Stadium while also being able to slot in at third base, which is the position he did not want to leave in the first place. The price may steepen with a rival tax, but the Yankees certainly would love the opportunity to swipe one of their rival's best players.

With the Red Sox still in the hunt for the American League East, they may hold off trading Devers until the deadline or potentially the offseason if the situation does not cool off between the two. But if Devers requests a trade or the Red Sox put him on the block, the Yankees should be calling in for a left-handed threat to add to their already potent lineup.
