The New York Yankees are discovering that it can pay off sometimes to be patient.

When the organization acquired Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres, A.J. Preller insisted the Bronx Bombers take Trent Grisham as well. Now, as MLB insider Bob Nightengale confirmed, Grisham is producing when it matters the most.

"Two winters ago, the Yankees were were forced to take on Trent Grisham and his $5.5 million in the Juan Soto trade," wrote Nightengale. "Now, Grisham is having a monster season and is a primary reason the Yankees are sitting in the playoff hunt with his career-high 28 homers, including seven in the last 10 games entering Saturday."

It became seven in his last 11 games entering Sunday, but the point still stands. Grisham's perseverance is paying off for the Yankees. If the 28-year-old outfielder didn't step up this season, he may have been a roster spot casualty in the offseason with the Rule 5 Draft and/or to clear the way for free agent signings.

Now that the Yankees know Grisham has turned a corner, it's one less thing the team has to worry about going into the playoffs. If by some slim chance Aaron Judge isn't ready to play defense by the end of the regular season, New York should feel confident with an outfield trio of Jasson Dominguez, Cody Bellinger and Grisham. However, if Judge does return, it gives the Yankees a good problem to have with four outfielders who can put the ball in play when needed.

In a season where it feels like everything has gone wrong for the Yankees, Grisham's resurgence is a positive surprise.
