Teams often take fliers on unknown talents at this time of year, but the New York Yankees' newest outfield signing has at least seen some big-league action.
Four plate appearances of major league experience, to be precise.
According to the official Major League Baseball transactions log, the Yankees signed 25-year-old outfielder Kenedy Corona to a minor-league deal. The signing was dated Dec. 24, but it did not appear on the log until at least two weeks thereafter.

Corona, who still has his rookie eligibility and two minor-league options, made his major league debut for the Houston Astros in July. He appeared in three games, went 0-for-2 with two walks, and was promptly optioned back to Triple-A Sugar Land.
In November, Houston decided Corona wasn't worth a spot on its 40-man roster, and waived him in an attempt to outright him to Triple-A. However, Corona was eligible to elect free agency, resulting in him seeking the deal that wound up coming from the Yankees.
Across 121 games for Sugar Land last season, Corona slashed a paltry .220/.308/.326 with seven home runs and 18 stolen bases. He had some solid offensive seasons early in his minor-league career, but has struggled since his promotion to Double-A in 2023.
Corona's best skill set at the major league level is likely his glove, as he won the Rawlings MiLB Gold Glove in 2023, meaning he was viewed as one of the three best defensive outfielders in the entire affiliated ball landscape.
Could Corona work his way into a bench role for the Yankees at some point in the upcoming season? Part of that answer might depend on whether New York re-signs free-agent outfielder Cody Bellinger, and even if they don't, he'll still have a lot of competition on the internal depth chart.
