The New York Yankees signed former Kansas City Royals and Houston Astros relief pitcher Dylan Coleman to a minor league deal, according to New York Daily News' Gary Phillips.
Coleman signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles before last season. However, he pitched in just 11 games between Double-A and Triple-A before he was released. Last season was the third consecutive season in which Coleman has struggled.
Before this rough stretch in his career, he had a stellar year for the Royals in 2022. In 2022, he had a 2.78 ERA in 68 games. He had 71 strikeouts and a 1.235 WHIP. His fastball sat at 97.6 mph, ranking in the 95th percentile. His 31.2% whiff rate was in the 85th percentile that season.

In 2023, he struggled and was up and down between the big leagues and Triple-A. He had an 8.84 ERA in 23 big league games. He had a 4.70 ERA in 32 Triple-A games. He fell off hard from his great 2022 campaign, and after the season, he was traded to the Astros.
In 36 games for the Astros' Triple-A affiliate, he had a 6.50 ERA. He pitched just one game in the big leagues that season and threw one scoreless inning. The Astros released him in August. Even though he has struggled as of late, the Yankees will hope to get him back into the form he was in during the 2024 season.
