The New York Yankees acquired Angel Chivilli from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for T.J. Rumfield in a trade on Wednesday, according to the team on X.

Rumfield was the Yankees' No. 22 prospect according to MLB Pipeline and reached Triple-A in 2024. He spent all of last season in Triple-A, hitting .285 in 138 games with an .825 OPS. He is a solid prospect, but the Yankees dealt him for Chivilli, who had a 7.06 ERA for the Rockies last season.

His fastball sits at 97.1 mph, and he has a 29.7 whiff percentage. However, he has not found much success in the big leagues. In 73 big league games, he has a 6.18 ERA. His fastball ranks in the 88th percentile, and his whiff percentage is in the 80th percentile, per Baseball Savant.

The Yankees designated Michael Siani for assignment in a move to make room on the 40-man roster. The Yankees claimed Siani off waivers on Friday.

While his ERA is alarming, he is only 23 years old and has been pitching in a very hitter freindly Coors Field. His ERA on the road is slightly better on the road, but it is still 5.03. He has given up 20 home runs in the last two seasons, but only nine have come at Coors Field.

The Yankees are likely hoping some time with Matt Blake and the rest of their staff can help Chivilli develop into a better arm. He has velocity and gets ground balls amost 50% of the time. He gets above-average horizontal break on his four-seam fastball. The Yankees likely like the stuff he has, but will now have to find a way to get the best out of him. He is under club control through 2030.
