The New York Yankees' offseason will be full of key decisions. One of those decisions will be whether the team wants to pick up Jonathan Loaisiga's option.

Loaisiga signed a one-year, $5 million deal last winter and has a $5 million club option for next season. He pitched in 30 games this season, but the team has shut him down for the year with a flexor strain.

He missed most of last season, pitching in just three games, and did not make his debut this season until May. Now, an injury has ended his season early once again. ESPN's Jeff Passan noted the Yankees were "unlikely" to pick up his option.

Loaisiga signed a minor league contract with the Yankees in 2016 and made his debut in 2018. He has spent his entire time in the big leagues with the Yankees.

In eight seasons, he has a 3.54 ERA and 232 strikeouts. He had a 4.25 ERA and one save this season. Injuries have plagued him recently, but he has been a decent option for Aaron Boone throughout his time with the team.

He has a 3.60 postseason ERA through 13 games and 15 innings of work. In the 2022 postseason, he has a 0.96 ERA through 9 1/3 innings of work. Boone has noted that Loaisiga will not need surgery for his flexor strain, but he will not be healthy enough to contribute down the line this year.

The Yankees acquired three controllable pitchers at the trade deadline, and that will likely figure into their plans with Loaisiga's option. Declining his option could allow the Yankees to sign him back on a different deal as well.
