Heading into the offseason, there were rumors that Giannis Antetokounmpo may request a trade out of Milwaukee.

Ahead of a big 2025-26 season where the Bucks will look to bounce back from a first-round exit at the hands of the Indiana Pacers, he opened up on his future with the team during a Greek-speaking interview with Sport24.

While he hopes it never happens, Antetokounmpo admitted that he's expecting the Milwaukee front office to trade him one day.

"Look, I hope it never happens, but I'm expecting it to. Just because you've given a lot to the team doesn't mean the team won't do what's best for itself. It's not always the same owners. And when I say owners, the team presidents now, they're not the same as when we won the championship. It's someone else."

"'If Giannis doesn't work for me, can't offer me what I need, I'll trade him, I'll do what's best for my team and my investment. I've put hundreds of millions into the team.'"

As Antetokounmpo went on to explain, the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade last season served as a stark reminder that anything can happen.

"Sure, if my head were in the clouds, I'd say, 'No way I get traded, I'm Giannis Antetokounmpo.' Because I'm not in the clouds and I'm very normal, grounded, I say anything is possible, you never know."

Heading into the 2025-26 season, Antetokounmpo still has two guaranteed years left on his contract before being faced with a player option for the 2027-28 season.

Considering how dominant Antetokounmpo looked with Greece during EuroBasket 2025 this summer, it will be interesting to see how things play out for the team during the season ahead as The Greek Freak looks to win his second NBA title.
