The Charlotte Hornets are preparing to honor one of the most recognizable players in franchise history.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Hornets will retire Muggsy Bogues' No. 1 jersey on Feb. 11, recognizing the former point guard's remarkable career and lasting impact on the organization.

Standing at just 5-foot-3, Bogues remains the shortest player in NBA history. Despite his height, he carved out an impressive 14-year career, becoming one of the league's most respected floor generals and proving that size wasn't a requirement for success at basketball's highest level.

His quickness, defensive intensity and exceptional court vision made him a fan favorite throughout his tenure.

Bogues remains Charlotte's all-time leader in assists, steals and minutes played, highlighting his importance to the organization's early success and his consistency throughout a decade with the team.

Originally selected 12th overall by the Washington Bullets in the 1987 NBA Draft, Bogues joined Charlotte during the franchise's inaugural season in 1988.

He quickly became a central figure in the Hornets' rise during the 1990s, playing alongside stars such as Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning.

Charlotte reached the playoffs three times during Bogues' tenure, including its first postseason appearance in 1993, when the Hornets advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

While Johnson and Mourning provided the star power, Bogues helped orchestrate the offense and establish the identity of a young franchise looking to compete against the NBA's established contenders.

Beyond his accomplishments on the court, Bogues became an inspiration to generations of basketball players who were told they were too small to compete.

His ability to thrive against significantly taller opponents made him one of the league's most recognizable personalities and a symbol of determination.

The jersey retirement will recognize more than his individual accomplishments. It will celebrate a player who helped shape Charlotte's basketball culture and remained closely associated with the franchise long after his playing career ended.

For an organization with a history spanning nearly four decades, Bogues remains one of its most beloved figures.

Now, his No. 1 jersey will receive a permanent place of honor in Charlotte basketball history, ensuring that future generations remember the undersized point guard who made an enormous impact on the franchise.
