Dalton Knecht did not need much time to make an impression in his first appearance for the New York Knicks.

The former Los Angeles Lakers forward had an encouraging performance against Chicago, giving head coach Mike Brown another option off the bench.

Knecht scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He shot 4-of-6 from the field, including two three-pointers, and also recorded an assist and a block.

His debut began with an offensive rebound and a putback dunk that brought the Madison Square Garden crowd to life.

“It was great. Honestly I didn’t hear much just because I’m so locked in, but it was good. Pretty much my first play was a putback dunk so it’s cool, it’s great,” Knecht told SNY.

The 25-year-old also explained what he wants to bring to the team.

“A three-level scorer. I think I just go out there and could impact the game at all 3 levels. I just want to show on the other side of the ball…ball pressure…going in & grabbing defensive rebounds,” he said, via New York Basketball.

Knecht added that he was not surprised when the coaching staff made him active.

“No, I wasn’t surprised. I just came in ready to go. The coaches said ‘you’re active’ — that just means be ready,” he told SNY.

Brown was equally encouraged by what he saw, particularly Knecht's ability to score beyond the three-point line.

“He’s a scorer. He’s not just a shooter. A lot of people think he’s a shooter because he’s white. I said it for you, I hope I don’t get in trouble. He can go get it,” Brown said, via SNY.

After joining New York on a two-way contract following his Lakers departure, Knecht has made an early case for a bigger opportunity.
