It’s not surprising to hear Michael Porter Jr.’s opinion in the news again, especially when he gives his take on his former team.
The Brooklyn Nets forward was acquired from the Denver Nuggets during the offseason for Cam Johnson, and Porter Jr. hasn’t been quiet since his departure. In his latest podcast appearance, this time on the Emily Austin Show, Porter Jr. wasn’t afraid to talk about his former team’s successes and his current team’s desire to tank for draft position.
When asked about his thoughts on the NBA title odds, in which the Nuggets have one of the league’s best chances, Porter Jr. revealed his mixed emotions about seeing his former team potentially lift the trophy once again.

“I would love it and hate it if Denver won,” Porter Jr. said. “I would love it because those are my friends, but I would hate it because that means they got better once they traded me. I’m like a toxic ex.”
Porter Jr. eventually did predict the Nuggets to win the NBA championship this season, mainly due to the contributions of star center Nikola Jokic, who Porter Jr. said is the greatest player he’s ever seen.

“People will say Michael Jordan to agree with everyone else,” Porter Jr. boldly claimed. “For me, with my own two eyes, from what I’ve seen in my life, I’m going to say Nikola Jokic is the best basketball player I’ve ever seen.”
In his seventh season in the NBA and first with the Nets, Porter Jr. is in the midst of his best season as a pro, despite Brooklyn holding one of the worst records in the league. The former lottery pick is averaging a career-high 24.3 points and 7.2 rebounds this season.
Porter Jr.’s comments should endear him to Nuggets fans again, while the trade for Johnson continues to be debated because of the latter’s poor play as of late.
