The Pistons recently shared a fresh medical update, confirming that Duren has reached an important stage in his rehabilitation.
However, the team has not provided a return date just yet.
“Pistons center Jalen Duren continues to make progress through his rehab for a right hamstring strain suffered at Miami on 10/23. He has been cleared to begin on-court basketball activity, and his status will be updated again in two weeks,” the official statement read, as per Pistons PR.
The update is encouraging because Duren can now resume basketball-related activities on the court.
But his clearance does not necessarily mean he is close to returning to game action. Detroit will provide another assessment in two weeks.
Duren suffered the injury during the Pistons' 128-111 victory over the Miami Heat on October 23. He exited in the second quarter and did not return. Detroit initially announced that he would miss at least two weeks.
His absence has been significant for a team that relies heavily on his presence in the paint. Duren enjoyed a breakout 2025-26 campaign, averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while earning his first All-Star selection and All-NBA Third Team honors.
Detroit has had to adjust its frontcourt rotation in his absence. Paul Reed has taken on additional responsibilities, while John Collins and Tolu Smith provide other options in the middle.
The Pistons have started the 2026-27 season with encouraging results, but getting Duren back will be important for their ambitions in the Eastern Conference.
