Bill Simmons has a big update on UCLA head coach Bob Chesney, and it's good news for the Bruins fans.

On the latest episode of "The Bill Simmons Podcast," Simmons announced that UCLA is preparing a contract extension for Chesney. UCLA is currently 8-0 on the season and just one of three FBS teams that are still undefeated.

“UCLA’s going to extend Bob Chesney,” Simmons said. “That’s in the works. …The Bob Chesney extension will happen. All the UCLA fans are starting to panic because nobody went to the last game, and the Rose Bowl is not packed enough; some big university is going to scoop him or an NFL team."

UCLA HC Bob Chesney

Chesney joined UCLA this year after spending the last two years as the head coach at James Madison. In 2025, Chesney led the Dukes to a 12-2 record, a Sun Belt Conference championship, and an appearance in the College Football Playoff.

Bob Chesney Says UCLA is 'The Greatest Place in the World'

Before joining James Madison, Chesney was the head coach at Holy Cross from 2018-23. He led the Crusaders to four consecutive FCS playoff appearances and finished with a 44-21 overall record.

“I’ve said it before, this is the greatest place in the world to play football, and it’s the greatest place in the world to coach football,” Chesney said last week ahead of UCLA's matchup with Nevada. “I’m extremely blessed to be here. My family loves it here. I love it here. … I truly love it.

“The vision that I have for this place, as an outsider looking in, is all things that is being met with that same energy. A plan of moving forward, an idea of chasing greatness and not being afraid to consider this big-time college football and start building a program that way."
