After a strong first-half performance, the BYU Cougars offense was held scoreless in a close loss on Saturday to the Utah Utes. However, unlike many fans who tuned into the game, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake doesn't seem to put the loss on star quarterback Bear Bachmeier.

Bachmeier came into Saturday's game with just four interceptions on the season. Unfortunately, he matched that total in Saturday's game alone, throwing three of his four interceptions in the game in the second half.

Naturally, Bachmeier has been the subject of plenty of criticism on social media for the lackluster play in the second half of Saturday's game.

Kalani Sitake shared a different perspective following the game, crediting the Utah defense for making impact plays and claiming that the Utes are "one of the best in the country" on that side of the ball.

"That's what the defense here does," said Sitake. "I grew up in that system too. You want to find ways to create havoc and make things difficult for the quarterback. I think they made some great plays on the ball. I'd kind of look at it and see it from Bear's perspective. I think he's being really hard on himself. It's okay, this defense is one of the best defenses in the country. The scheme and the system works really well. If you are going to be aggressive in the pass game, you're going to have to live with some of the mistakes. They made a lot of really great plays on the ball."

Regardless of who is to blame for the loss, it is a crushing result for a BYU team that came into the game with hopes of staying in the mix for a CFP bid.

With two losses on the year, it will likely require a perfect end of the season for BYU, along with some help around the country, to potentially earn a CFP spot.

BYU will look to get back on track in Week 11 when they host the Baylor Bears next Saturday, who won their Week 10 matchup against Iowa State.
