Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Julian Lewis was hospitalized after suffering a medical emergency at the team's athletic facility on Wednesday, his father, T. Carlton Lewis, announced on social media Thursday.

“Yesterday, Julian experienced a medical emergency at the University of Colorado athletic facility and was promptly transported to the hospital,” the statement reads. “He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support. Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Julian Lewis began the 2026 season as Colorado's starting QB but was benched at halftime against Baylor on Sept. 26. He has not played since being replaced by Isaac Wilson, and Colorado has lost all three games Wilson has started.

Julian Lewis Was a Top Recruit Before Joining Colorado

Lewis has played in four games and completed 64.2% of his pass attempts for 733 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. Earlier this week, reporters asked head coach Deion Sanders whether Lewis will get another opportunity to play this season.

"It's a great question, but that's on him... I don't think you could find a player in this program, or you may could find some bitter players that have left and didn't want to leave," Sanders said, per USA Today. "But life is what it is. But I don't treat people unfairly. I don't play games with young men in their careers and hate on folks."

Lewis is in his second season with the Buffaloes. He was a four-star recruit and ranked the No. 7 QB in the On3|Rivals Industry Rankings Class of 2025.
