Ohio State Buckeyes freshman running back Legend Bey did not get an offensive touch until the fourth quarter Saturday, when a home game against the Oregon Ducks had already slipped away.

His first touch came with Ohio State trailing by 24 points.

Former Buckeyes running back and receiver Curtis Samuel thought the young playmaker deserved a chance in more competitive situations. As Ohio State fell 41–28, he took to X to question how the team was using Bey.

“Legend Bey isn’t good enough to get offensive snaps in meaningful parts of the game?” Samuel wrote on his X account. “I think the kid is super talented.”

Ohio State had opened a 14–0 lead before Oregon scored 38 consecutive points. The Buckeyes scored twice in the fourth quarter but could not erase that deficit, falling to 6–3 overall and 4–2 in the Big Ten.

Bey finished with one carry for 12 yards and two receptions for 10 yards. All three touches came on the possession that began with 7:13 remaining and Oregon ahead 38–14. He also returned three kickoffs for 62 yards.

Bey arrived at Ohio State after playing quarterback at North Forney High School in Texas. As a senior, he accounted for 45 touchdowns in 11 games.

Through seven appearances this season, Bey has 18 carries for 74 yards and four catches for 47 yards, including one receiving touchdown. Ohio State lists him as a running back, giving the offense a young player with experience handling the ball in multiple roles.

Samuel’s own college career offers context for his interest in a player who can contribute in different ways. In 2016, he produced 771 rushing yards and 865 receiving yards with 15 combined touchdowns, earning first-team All-America honors. He was the only player in the nation that season with at least 700 yards both rushing and receiving. The Carolina Panthers selected him 40th overall in the 2017 NFL draft.
