Gwath had a bit of a turbulent past year for the Aztecs. After being a starter as a redshirt freshman, he only started 16 out of a possible 25 games as a redshirt sophomore.

In 2024-25, Gwath was a true revelation — leading the Aztecs in blocks (2.6 BPG) while also becoming the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year. After flirtations in the portal (namely with Kentucky), he opted to return to San Diego with the goal of presumably taking the next step in his development.

Gwath is far from a finished product. He's possessing a very thin frame, and as a result is often susceptible to being moved off the block by stronger players. Gaining weight will be necessary for Gwath to maximize his sky-high potential.

The 7-footer shot nearly 44 percent from three-point range this year. He also averages more than two blocks per contest for his career. Given his length, athleticism, and ability to space the floor, Gwath does represent the modern-day center quite well.

It'll be fascinating to see where he ultimately ends up. Assuming Gwath adds strength and improves on his rebounding, NBA teams surely will come calling.
