Miami was the first college football program to offer Brysen Wright a scholarship in 2023, before he had played a varsity game.
On Thursday, the five-star wide receiver chose the Hurricanes over Florida and Texas. He also gave Miami fans a reason to start looking for him next fall.
Wright, ESPN’s No. 1 overall prospect in the Class of 2028, plans to graduate from Jacksonville’s Mandarin High School a year early and join the Hurricanes in 2027, according to SportsCenter.

The decision puts Wright in the same recruiting class as Miami Carol City standout Nick Lennear, giving coach Mario Cristobal commitments from two of the top receivers in Florida.
Wright first drew national attention for the catches he made playing flag football. He earned NFL FLAG Player of the Year honors for 2025 and was recognized during Super Bowl week in February. By then, he had already put together two varsity seasons at Mandarin, catching 18 touchdown passes before the end of his sophomore year.
His junior season has been his best as a receiver. Through 10 games, Wright caught 46 passes for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 21.4 yards per reception as Mandarin finished the regular season 9-1.
He surpassed his sophomore totals in catches, yards and touchdowns before the Mustangs played a postseason game.
Those numbers cover only the time Wright spent on offense. He also played safety and returned kicks for Mandarin.
As a sophomore, he made 55 tackles, intercepted five passes and broke up five more while finishing just 38 yards shy of a 1,000-yard receiving season.
Miami already had a connection to the player on the other end of most of Wright’s catches. Mandarin quarterback Knox Annis committed to the Hurricanes in April.
The two have helped Wright compile 2,592 receiving yards and 29 touchdown catches across 33 varsity games, according to Clayton Freeman of the Florida Times-Union.
Before either player heads to Coral Gables, there is still a postseason to play in Jacksonville. Wright enters the playoffs 16 yards away from his first 1,000-yard receiving season.
His decision to graduate early gives that run a little more weight for Mandarin, too.
The next time the Mustangs open a season, the receiver who helped carry them to nine wins this fall plans to be on Miami’s roster.
