Arkansas State stopped a four-game slide and evened its conference record at 1-1 with a 31-30 win over visiting Texas State on Oct. 4 when quarterback Jaylen Raynor scored on a four-yard run with seven seconds left. Raynor completed 20 straight passes in the game, the second-most in FBS history, and has completed 67.0% of his throws for 1,451 yards and eight touchdowns this season. Devin Spencer leads the ground attack with 200 yards and a touchdown on 43 carries, while Raynor has five rushing TDs and 196 yards. Chauncey Cobb is the top target in the passing game with 34 catches for 406 yards, and Avante Dickerson leads the defense with two interceptions.
The Jaguars fell to 0-2 in Sun Belt play with a 31-24 overtime loss at Troy on Oct. 4 after forcing overtime on Bishop Davenport’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Kentrel Bullock with 1:54 remaining. Bullock leads the team with 496 rushing yards and five scores, while Devin Voisin has 37 catches for 501 yards and four TDs. Davenport completes 64.4% of his throws with 1,063 yards and nine scores.
The Red Wolves snapped a five-game losing streak against South Alabama with an 18-16 win at home last season.
