ESPN’s “College GameDay” was in College Station on Saturday morning to preview the highly anticipated first-round matchup between the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes and the No. 7 Texas A&M Aggies.
Days earlier, the show had announced that former Aggies legend and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel would serve as the celebrity guest picker — a perfect fit given his accomplishments with the program and the significance of the matchup, arguably Texas A&M’s biggest game in program history.
However, moments before Manziel was scheduled to appear, it was revealed that he would not be attending. Instead, former Texas A&M basketball star and current Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso stepped in as his replacement.

While Manziel posted on his Instagram story on Friday about being the celebrity guest picker, he also revealed that he was in Miami on Friday night attending the highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua.
Manziel missing the show drew some backlash from college football fans who had been looking forward to seeing him on the sidelines at Kyle Field making his pick in front of the entire stadium. Still, it didn’t come as a surprise to many given Manziel’s history.
“We know what happened. I knew he wouldn’t show. First thought I had when I heard he would be on GameDay,” one fan said.
Another added, “Johnny Manziel not showing up on time, no way.”
A third wrote, “Hard to wake up at 8 a.m. when you’re up all night.”
“Johnny Manziel is a loser. That’s what happened,” one fan harshly commented.
Another chimed in, “Johnny gonna Johnny.”
