The LSU Tigers women's basketball team has had one consistent nemesis since head coach Kim Mulkey arrived on campus in 2021: Dawn Staley's South Carolina Gamecocks. Air travel might become the second, should the Tigers advance through the first two rounds of the women's Division I NCAA Tournament.

LSU was named the No. 2 seed in the Sacramento 2 region when the bracket was revealed on CBS' "Selection Sunday" earlier tonight. The Tigers are the No. 2 seed for the first time since 2008, according to NOLA.com, and will host No. 15 Jacksonville at Pete Maravich Assembly Center on March 20.

When asked for her thoughts on the draw and the possibility of having to travel across the country to Sacramento, Calif., Mulkey started singing.

"Go west, young man, haven't you been told?" Mulkey sang to a room full of startled, silent reporters. "Who sang that? 'Haven't you been told?' It's a country song. Y'all let me know. Look it up. That's what y'all do. Y'all believe everything you read anyway."

The answer is Toby Keith's "Should've Been a Cowboy," by the way.

This isn't the first time Mulkey has busted out in song. In 2023, Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi asked Lil Wayne to judge Mulkey's impromptu rendition of George Strait's "All My Ex’s Live in Texas" and LSU guard Flau'jae Johnson's rapping.

"Flau'jae's flow game is bananas," Lil Wayne said. "For Miss Kim to rock that 'All My Ex’s Live in Texas,' though? That's classic! I wish I had that sample. I would use that on a sample. That would be my new single."

On Sunday, Mulkey eventually said, "You're always excited this time of year. After you look at the bracket, you'll study, and you'll ask yourself, 'I don't understand that.' But that's what happens every year. As you see, the SEC doesn't give you a good S curve, does it? Were we the first 2-seed? And we're gonna have to play — normally, the first 2-seed would play the fourth 1-seed, but that's how good our league is."

Mulkey was referencing that LSU shares the Sacramento 2 region with No. 1 UCLA, the second No. 1 seed behind the undefeated, defending national champion UConn Huskies.

The 27-5 Tigers lost 83-77 to South Carolina, the fourth No. 1 seed, in the SEC Tournament semifinal on March 7. LSU also lost to the Gamecocks on Feb. 14 and to Texas, the third No. 1 seed, on Feb. 5. As aforementioned, Mulkey's Tigers have never beaten Staley's Gamecocks. They would only have another shot this year if LSU and South Carolina face off in the national championship. A chef's kiss sendoff to March Madness.

The Tigers last won it all by beating the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes in 2023. See their path to another championship and the full women's NCAA Tournament bracket here.
