LSU had hoped Saturday’s game against Alabama would mark Whit Weeks’ return.
Instead, the Tigers are expected to face the Crimson Tide without their senior linebacker as he continues to recover from a broken right leg, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Weeks fractured his right fibula in LSU’s Sept. 26 win over Texas A&M and underwent surgery days later. The Alabama game will come exactly six weeks after the injury, with LSU coming off a bye.

That break in the schedule had made Saturday a possible return date for one of the Tigers’ defensive captains.
There was some encouragement Wednesday when LSU listed Weeks as doubtful on its first SEC availability report of the week.
He had been listed as out for every game since the injury. Zenitz reported Thursday, however, that sources expect Weeks to miss the Alabama game.
The concern for defensive coordinator Blake Baker extends beyond his captain. LSU also listed Weeks’ younger brother, linebacker Zach Weeks, as questionable Wednesday.
Reserve linebacker Charles Ross II was already out. The Tigers have turned to Davhon Keys during Whit Weeks’ absence, and Zach’s status could further limit Baker’s options at the position.
Whit Weeks entered the season with 205 career tackles and added 23 more before the injury.
His best season came in 2024, when he earned first-team All-SEC honors and finished second in the conference with 125 tackles. Ten of those stops came behind the line of scrimmage.
One game from that season offers a sense of what LSU had hoped to get back for Alabama. In a win over Ole Miss, Weeks recorded a career-high 18 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

It was the first of two performances that earned him SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors that fall.
LSU won its most recent game without Weeks, beating Auburn 38-17 on the road before the bye. Alabama also enters Saturday at 6-2 after beating Texas A&M 31-20.
The teams kick off at 2:30 p.m. Central on ABC, the first daytime meeting between the rivals at Tiger Stadium since 2010.
A win would move LSU to 4-2 in SEC play and push Alabama to a third conference loss. The Tigers had circled this game as a chance to get their captain back.
Now they’ll likely have to move ahead of the Tide in the standings without him.
