Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz announced a big update on running back Ahmad Hardy, who has not played this season.

"After consulting with our medical team, Ahmad Hardy will return to practice this week," Drinkwitz said. "Our medical staff will determine his return to game action."

During the offseason, Hardy underwent surgery for a gunshot wound in his leg. He had a huge 2025 season for the Tigers, rushing for 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns on 256 carries.

In August, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Hardy was aiming to return in mid-September. Around that same time, Drinkwitz shared an update on the star running back.

Jamal Roberts has filled in nicely for Ahmad Hardy

“Ahmad is working his rear-end off,” Drinkwitz said at the time, per Kyle McAreavy of Mizzou Today. “He’s doing everything we can ask him to do. But just not going to be able to be ready for that first game. … Really don’t have a timetable on that. It’s up to his body and his response. And I know he’s doing everything he can.”

Drinkwitz added, “Ahmad’s been here every day, worked really hard. Faced the adversity of not responding the way he wants to. He wishes it was ready to go yesterday, which we all do. But still staying positive and attacking it.”

Missouri seems to be doing fine without Hardy, as the team is currently 5-2 and 2-2 in SEC play. Jamal Roberts has filled in for Hardy and has become one of the top running backs in the conference. He leads the SEC in rushing yards (867) and is tied for third in rushing touchdowns (eight).
