NC State head coach Dave Doeren was fired on Saturday.

North Carolina State University announced the decision just one day after the program fell to 3-4 following a loss to the Stanford Cardinal on Friday.

"I want to thank Coach Doeren for his service and contributions to NC State, and for always representing the university with pride," Wolfpack athletic director Boo Corrigan said. "I appreciate his leadership during his 14-year tenure and the passion he brought to this role. We wish Dave, Sara and his family the best in the future."

Todd Goebbel, running backs coach/special teams coordinator, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, per the announcement.

Doeren was in his 14th season in Raleigh, NC -- he will leave as the school's winningest head coach (98-74) and is owed more than $10 million as he was signed through 2029.

It's the second time this week a long-tenured head coach was fired.

Maryland Terrapins head coach Mike Locksley was dismissed Wednesday.
