Ahead of a College Football Playoff showdown against Miami in the Cotton Bowl, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day revealed he'll be calling plays for the Buckeyes instead of offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, who accepted the South Florida opening this offseason.

"We wanted to take [playcalling] off of Brian's plate because he's got so much going on with what he's trying to do," Day said Monday. "Ultimately it will be my decision what calls go into the game."

Many of those calls will likely be to target star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who led the team in receptions (80), receiving yards (1,086) and receiving touchdowns (11). The Miami native is familiar with his opponent and offered a word of warning ahead of the contest.

When asked if fans in south Florida still talk about Ohio State's victory over Miami in the 2003 national title game, Smith didn't hold back.

“Oh yeah, for sure, I mean, you see it all over the internet, all over Twitter,” Smith said. “They’re still talking about it twenty years later. They’re still worried about it, but we’ve got something for them come New Year’s Eve.”

Smith wasn't done there, though. When asked about the possibility of taking a late hit in the game, Smith made it clear he plans to be the aggressor.

"I’m not really worried about that because I’m probably the one that’s going to be doing it too. I’m going to be a little chippy out there. I’m bringing it all this week," the star wide receiver said bluntly.

Ohio State and Miami kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on New Year's Eve.
