The Oklahoma Sooners welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide to Norman this Friday to kick off the College Football Playoff, but news on Wednesday has derailed some of the party atmosphere in the state.

Defensive back Kendel Dolby is set to enter the transfer portal following the end of the Sooners’ season, be it on Friday against Alabama or, for Oklahoma fans, in mid-January after they win the national title.

A four-star recruit out of Ohio, Dolby was the No. 1 nationally ranked cornerback heading into college during the 2023 class. While he hasn’t lived up to his full potential as a Sooner, the talented ball hawk believes that he can make an impact on a different team in the 2026 season.

It has been difficult for Dolby to find consistent playing time with the Sooners, who deploy one of, if not the best, defenses in college football. The defense has carried the team when the offense, which started off hot, has sputtered late into the winter months.

Oklahoma will hope that its iron wall defense will be enough to eliminate one of the sport’s most storied programs on Friday in Alabama. The winner will then travel west to sunny Southern California for a New Year’s Day clash with the top-seeded Indiana Hoosiers in the iconic Rose Bowl.
