Well, this is unexpected.

During ESPN’s “College GameDay,” Pat McAfee picked for a Championship sleeper is a puzzling one, considering what went down with the analyst and the University of Utah.

Little backstory time: After a video of students doing impressions of McAfee went viral on social media, the former Indianapolis Colts punter went on the defense and called out the school for sharing the video.

“If these kids would have done this on their own blogs, all good,” McAfee said, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. “The university puts that out as I’m about to go do an informercial for the place?”

He even said “I’ll never see you again, hopefully,” to close the “GameDay” broadcast.

He continued his rant on his show “The Pat McAfee Show” the following week.

“I’ve enjoyed this college football season – did not enjoy the University of Utah. Did not enjoy it,” he said.

Fast forward to Saturday morning where it’s time for McAfee to make a decision on both his Championship contender, and his Championship sleeper.

And guess who he picked as sleeper?

“You know, I don’t want to continue to perpetuate anything, especially after the week that I’ve just had, but SEC, SPN’s running wild right now, okay?” McAfee said on “College GameDay.” “I will say you know who hasn’t been represented up here? Big Ten, SEC, Independent, ACC. How about BOOM, Big 12.”

That’s right, Utah.

“Dan Peter could go crazy at any time,” he continued. “Their huge win over the Houston Cougs last week, I think showed me a lot. They were down going into the fourth quarter, they responded by blanking Houston in the fourth quarter. I like Morgan Scully’s team out there and I think they will be the best team in the Big 12 when it’s all said and done. They got a spooky one though at the end of the season against WVU.”

Maybe because of that pick, students at the University of Utah will ease up on McAfee and allow him to take off his shirt every now and then.
