With the recent opening of the North Carolina Tar Heels head coaching job, St. John's Red Storm head coach Rick Pitino’s name quickly surfaced as a potential candidate.
That speculation was swiftly shut down. According to NJ Advance Media’s Adam Zagoria, Pitino addressed the UNC rumors, saying, “St. John’s or retirement for me.”
Zagoria also reported that Pitino’s agent has a restructured contract on the table, which would make him the second-highest-paid coach in the Big East behind UConn’s Dan Hurley.

“Pitino’s agent has a revised contract offer from St. John’s in front of him that would make him the second-highest-paid Big East coach behind UConn’s Dan Hurley,” Zagoria wrote.
He added Thursday morning, “Rick Pitino is expected to sign his restructured contract offer from St. John’s soon, possibly today.”
