The Ohio State Buckeyes got a hopeful word on Julian Sayin, though it comes too late for the Oregon game.
Head coach Ryan Day said the starting quarterback won’t return within the next month but sounded upbeat about the long-term outlook. Shortly after the injury, Day had labeled Sayin out “indefinitely.”
Day called the result “a decent outcome for us and for him” given the options the team had feared going in.

“We’ll kind of let him go through that, but this thing looks to be healing. It’s not gonna be next week or next month. It’s gonna take some time, but I think certainly for the long term, we feel like we’re on a good track here,” Day said.
After the injury, Day said Ohio State was preparing as though Sayin might not play again in 2026, and that hasn’t been ruled out.
Sayin got hurt in a narrow Oct. 17 win at Indiana and was later seen wearing a sling after damaging his throwing arm or shoulder.

Before going down, he had completed 68.2% of his passes for 2,007 yards with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions, plus two rushing scores.
Luke Fahey has taken over. Coming off a bye, Ohio State fell 30-18 at USC on Halloween, with Fahey going 21 of 38 for 260 yards and a touchdown.
Star receiver Jeremiah Smith caught 10 passes for 83 yards and a score in the defeat.
Two losses have the Buckeyes in a bind. They debuted at No. 12 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, outside the projected bracket.
Fahey will start again against No. 23 Oregon, and Sayin was listed out on the Big Ten availability report.
Northwestern visits after Oregon, followed by a road trip to Nebraska. The regular season ends at home against Michigan in the game.
