The day has finally arrived, and on Monday, April 6, the winner of the 2026 NCAA men's basketball championship will officially be crowned.
The No. 1 seed Michigan Wolverines take on the No. 2 seed UConn Huskies at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Monday night, and after a few hours of action, we'll have a winner. Expect a close game packed with fireworks.
So, who will take home the championship this year? Social media is leaning to one team, especially after this team's Final Four success, but not by much.

The Michigan Wolverines are trending more on social media since their win, according to reports, with people on X and other social networks pointing towards the team's strong offense and "unstoppable" nature. That's especially evident after the team's blowout win over Arizona.
OptaSTATS noted on X, "Michigan is the first team ever to score 90+ points 5 times in a single NCAA Tournament."
"And has the #1 defense in the nation," one follower added. "Elite," another simply stated.

In a social media poll before the Final Four, Wizards fans voted for Michigan to win the NCAA men's basketball championship. "The Michigan Wolverines were the top choice with 40 percent of the vote. Arizona was 2nd with 33 percent," Albert Lee of SB Nation noted in a feature about the Final Four. Considering that Michigan trounced over Arizona in a 91-73 final score, that leans even more in their favor.
Pat Forde of SI is clearly going with Michigan for the win. He calls it Michigan 77, UConn 71. "The Wolverines’ string of cruise-control victories will end, as will their tourney-record streak of scoring 90 points—but they're not losing," Forde states. "The Huskies won’t make it easy, moving the ball at a pace that will stress Michigan’s big bodies defensively."

In the same feature, Kevin Sweeney goes with Michigan 73, UConn 63. "UConn is such a difficult out in this tournament with the style of offense that it plays and how complicated it is to prepare for the Huskies on a short turnaround," he notes in the piece. "But even with a potential tactical edge, this game feels like a story of Jimmys and Joes more than X's and O's." Sweeney believes Michigan's personnel will win over the Huskies.
So, UConn is the underdog, which isn't normal for them. But, they could always surprise everyone, including social media, with a win.
