The college basketball season is beginning to wind down for many teams as Champ Week unfolds and programs start to be eliminated from their conference tournaments.
One of those teams is the Syracuse Orange, which lost 86–69 to the SMU Mustangs in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Tuesday. The loss came after Syracuse finished the regular season with a 15–17 record.
With that — combined with missing the NCAA Tournament in all three seasons — the program has fired head coach Adrian Autry, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. Autry took over for legendary coach Jim Boeheim in 2023.

Autry’s tenure with the Orange simply did not go as planned. His first season was his most successful, as the team went 20–12 but still fell short of a postseason bid. In 2024, Syracuse finished 14–19, and after this season his final record with the program stood at 49–48.

Autry saw promise with the recruiting classes he brought in over the last two seasons, highlighted by former five-star Donnie Freeman in 2024 and this past offseason with Kiyan Anthony, the son of Carmelo Anthony. However, it never truly clicked.
“I don't shy away from the job that I did,” Autry said in his postgame press conference after Monday's loss. “I'm harder on myself than anybody. I didn't get the results that we wanted.”
The expectation is that current athletic director John Wildhack will announce Autry’s firing, with the incoming AD then expected to make the program’s next head coaching hire.
