Coming off the biggest win of his career, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian found himself at the center of controversy.

Texas rallied from a 20-point deficit to knock off No. 1-ranked Ohio State last weekend, giving Sarkisian the signature win his coaching resume had been lacking.

But after the win, he blew off his post-game interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe in a moment that inadvertently started a social media firestorm. The internet was divided over whether or not Sarkisian was out of line for choosing to go celebrate with his team in the locker room over fulfilling his media obligations.

After the dust settled on the incident, Sarkisian finally broke his silence on what happened on Thursday.

“As it pertains to after the ball game, again there was a delay after I greeted coach Day in the middle of the field,” Sarkisian said, via CJ Vogel of OnTexasFootball. “There was a delay in the moment, you know, through that delay, I wanted to go celebrate with our team. We just had a 21-point fourth-quarter comeback against the No. 1 team in the country.

“If hindsight's 20/20, if I could do it all over again, I would have exuded more patience in that moment and and and sat through and waited for the interview with Holly. Obviously, we have a ton of respect for ESPN and Holly. Holly and I go way back to even to my days of playing at BYU, and we've got a great relationship. ESPN is a great partner of ours. … Could have definitely handled that situation better with a little bit more patience in the moment.”

Sarkisian wasn’t the only one who found himself in hot water because of the Rowe incident.

Quarterback Arch Manning also came under fire after he made a joke about finding an AI video of Sarkisian slapping Rowe amusing.

Manning has since apologized to Rowe for what he said, and Rowe has publicly accepted his apology.
