Texas’ Camden Heide sent the No. 11 seed Longhorns to the Sweet 16 on a three-pointer from the corner in the final seconds, but he wasn’t sweating as much as his coach.

At least that’s what Longhorns head coach Sean Miller humorously admitted after a 74-68 thriller against No. 3 seed Gonzaga in the West Region on Saturday. Miler’s crew is on its third game of the week after starting off in the First Four at Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesday against N.C. State.

“He didn’t even sweat,” Miller said of Heide in a postgame interview with TNT Sports. “He’s fresher than I am. It’s great to see him make that shot.”

Heide put the Longhorns up 72-68 with 14 seconds left. Gonzaga scrambled to get a basket and a stop, but time ran out instead in Portland. It was Heide’s only points for the game in 13 minutes of play. He finished with an assist and three fouls.

Longhorns starters Jordan Pope and Mata Vokietaitis led the way with 17 points apiece. Vokietaitis shot 7-11 from the field, and he grabbed nine rebounds and dished two assists. Pope shot 7-18, including 3-8 from three-point range, and he had three assists and a rebound.

“He’s playing at a desperate level in a really good way,” Miller said of Pope.

Texas had trouble with Gonzaga’s Graham Ike, who scored a game-high 25 points on 10-22 shooting. Ike also had three rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Jalen Warley added 10 points on 4-7 shooting, and he had eight rebounds and five assists.

Texas gets a break now after three games in five days before the Sweet 16 tips off next Thursday.
