The San Francisco 49ers haven’t closed the door on Brandon Aiyuk, even after more than a year of open hostility.
General manager John Lynch told Bay Area outlet KNBR on Nov. 5 that patching things up with Aiyuk remains possible, one day before the receiver is due back at the facility.
Asked about a reunion, Lynch paused briefly, then spoke warmly of Aiyuk’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

“Of course. I think everything’s possible,” Lynch said. “I will say this: we’ve worked with Drew a lot. Drew is a good guy to deal with. He’s reasonable. He’s got integrity. So, in terms of that, that’s all good.”
Most of Lynch’s cards stayed hidden. San Francisco is 6-1, and Lynch said the team’s attention stays on its own season while it works through the Aiyuk case with the NFL Management Council.
He described a case with “no playbook” and said he’d been advised to keep details private.
“It’s fluid,” Lynch said. “I’m going to kind of leave it at that because I’ve been recommended to do so, and I think it’s the right thing to do. We’ll look for a pathway for both sides here that works.”
Lynch expects to share more next week, once the picture sharpens.
A severe knee injury in 2024, suffered weeks after he signed a long-term extension, marked the last time Aiyuk saw the field.
The team says he ignored its rehab guidelines and skipped post-surgery checkups during his recovery. San Francisco responded by wiping out nearly $27 million of his guaranteed money.
Aiyuk stayed away from the building and asked to be traded. He also ripped the organization online, and the team eventually placed him on the reserve/left squad list for the 2026 campaign.
After hiring Rosenhaus, Aiyuk submitted reinstatement paperwork to the NFL. Once he reports, San Francisco can keep him on his current deal, cut him, or try to trade him before the Nov. 10 deadline.
San Francisco faces the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 8, two days before the deadline that could settle Aiyuk’s future.
