The San Francisco 49ers are set for a huge road showdown Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field against the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the NFL playoffs at 4:30 p.m. EST.

Beating the defending Super Bowl champions is no easy task, but having playmaker Christian McCaffrey in the backfield gives them a boost.

On Saturday, McCaffrey earned league-wide recognition, being named to the AP All-Purpose First Team for the NFC. His 49ers teammate Kyle Juszczyk also made the NFC First Team as a fullback.

San Francisco celebrated the honor by posting, “Your RB’s favorite RB,” alongside a graphic highlighting McCaffrey’s achievement.

This season, McCaffrey rushed 311 times for 1,202 yards and 10 touchdowns, but his All-Purpose honor comes from his dual-threat ability. He also caught 102 passes for 924 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 3.9 yards per carry and 9.1 yards per reception.

Few players in the NFL can match McCaffrey’s combination of workhorse rushing and elite receiving out of the backfield, and his production this season proves it.

Despite the 49ers’ 12–5 record, they competed in the NFL’s toughest conference and finished third in the NFC West behind the 12–5 Rams and 14–3 Seahawks, the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

As a result, the 49ers and Rams earned the No. 6 and No. 5 seeds, respectively, setting up road playoff games this weekend. The Rams, however, will face the 8–9 Carolina Panthers, who surprisingly claimed the NFC South and a home playoff game.
