Season-ending injuries to Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley make quarterback a pressing need for the Baltimore Ravens.

A recently benched veteran could help keep their playoff aspirations alive.

Jackson will require thumb surgery after getting injured on the first throw of his Week 8 return from an ankle injury. ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Wednesday that Jackson's backup, Huntley, will also require season-ending surgery on his right foot.

ESPN's Aaron Schatz suggested a potential replacement, encouraging the Ravens to target Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals.

"The injury to Jackson completely changes the Ravens' needs," Schatz wrote. "They're still in the playoff race and need a quarterback with more experience than undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. Brissett might have lost his job to Gardner Minshew II on Sunday, but he still ranks 24th among qualified quarterbacks with a 48.9 QBR. That's not good, but that's not undrafted rookie level, either."

Brissett seized Arizona's starting job last year, accruing a career-high 3,366 passing yards and 23 touchdowns. However, the 33-year-old is averaging just 5.6 yards per pass attempt this season and has thrown one touchdown in his last three games.

The Cardinals benched Brissett with 119 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception late in a Week 8 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Minshew erased a 14-point deficit and tossed three touchdowns in a thrilling overtime win on the road.

Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur named Minshew his starter for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Brissett also slides to third on the quarterback depth chart behind rookie Carson Beck.

That could signal an end to Brissett's playing days in Arizona. While he certainly can't replicate Jackson's production, the veteran should at least represent an upgrade over Fagnano, who will start Thursday night's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
