The New England Patriots recorded arguably their biggest win since the Tom Brady era on Sunday night, traveling to Orchard Park and knocking off the unbeaten Buffalo Bills 23-20, led by second-year quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye, a former star and alumni of the North Carolina Tar Heels, was the center of conversation on Monday not just for his performance on the field, but also from fans questioning why the North Carolina social media team didn’t acknowledge his big game.
This was particularly puzzling given that the program had highlighted other former players who had standout performances that same day, but the reason why quickly emerged.

According to 247Sports' Ross Martin, the North Carolina staff had been directed by current head coach and longtime Patriots coach Bill Belichick to avoid posting or reposting anything related to the Patriots. The move comes just weeks after Belichick reportedly banned Patriots scouts from attending Tar Heels practices, saying he no longer felt welcome in New England’s facilities despite leading the team to six Lombardi Trophies during his tenure.

Fans of Maye didn't take Belichick's decision lightly on Monday morning.
"Belichick has really become a bitter old man late in his career. It’s actually sad to see," a fan said.
Someone else added: "That’s so petty and pathetic."
Another person wrote: "Seems excessive to restrict UNC from celebrating their alumni's success. College programs thrive on NFL connections."
"This pettiness is just sad to see," a fan reacted.
One more fan commented: "This is incredibly childish of Belichick. It sounds like it’s time for him to go ahead and retire if this is how he’s going to act. Very unprofessional and very very childish."

Interestingly, about an hour after multiple reports surfaced about the ban on Patriots content, North Carolina football posted a single Drake Maye highlight — a pass to wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
That said, nothing had been shared during Sunday night’s game or the following morning. The post only appeared after the news spread across social media, which sparked significant backlash directed at Bill Belichick.
