Buffalo Bills safety CJ Gardner-Johnson was suspended one game after spitting on Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers during a Week 6 matchup on Oct. 18.
The Bills had their bye in Week 7, and Gardner-Johnson served his suspension this past Sunday as Buffalo notched a Week 8 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
The Bills released Gardner-Johnson on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

"It was CJ’s inconsistency in play that led to the release not as much the spitting incident that got him suspended," NFL insider Cameron Wolfe of ESPN reports.
The Bills signed Gardner-Johnson on a one-year deal worth up to $6 million this past offseason. Through his six game appearances in a Buffalo uniform, he recorded one interception, two passes defended and 26 tackles.
This move contradicts previous comments from Bills head coach Joe Brady, who said Gardner-Johnson would not be cut following the news of his suspension.
“Look, CJ's a member of the Buffalo Bills,” Brady told reporters at the time. “We brought him here for a reason, and we know that he knows that he has to play better. He knows he has to be better for this team, and, you know, just like everybody else, right, we’ve got to learn from this stuff, and we have to improve and find ways to get better as the season goes.”

The 6-1 Bills will look to continue their impressive 2026 campaign in Monday night's Week 9 matchup against the 6-1 Minnesota Vikings.
