The Denver Broncos could have a key piece to their defense back on the field when they take on the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.
According to Zac Stevens of DNVR Broncos, Broncos starting safety Talanoa Hufanga officially returned to practice for the first time on Thursday since suffering his ankle injury in Week 5.

Hufanga only took part in practice as a limited participant, so his return to the field is far from guaranteed for Sunday, but his return to the practice field is certainly great news, nonetheless.
Hufanga has missed the past three weeks with his injury and the Broncos have surely missed him after he recorded 23 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, three passes defensed, two interceptions and one touchdown through the first five weeks of the season.

If Hufanga must miss another week, the Broncos will continue relying on backup safeties Devon Key, Taylor Rapp, Tycen Anderson and JL Skinner.
However, it's safe to say Denver would like him back on the field sooner rather than later as the team attempts to keep fending off the rest of the AFC West as it sits in first place with a 6-2 record. The Kansas City Chiefs are in second place at 5-2 and the Las Vegas Raiders are in third at 4-4.
A fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Hufanga has recorded 348 tackles, five sacks, four forced fumbles, 28 passes defensed, nine interceptions and two touchdowns in his professional career.
Hufanga joined the Broncos on a three-year, $45 million free agent contract in 2025.
