Sean Payton was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints for 15 seasons. Over that span, he won AP NFL Coach of the Year and the Greasy Neale Award twice, along with the Saints' first-ever Super Bowl title in 2010. He's an icon in New Orleans, and he's now working to build that same kind of legacy with the Denver Broncos, where he's been head coach since 2023.

His ties to the Saints remain strong even now. Payton has brought over more than a dozen of his former players to Denver, including key contributors like Wil Lutz, Adam Trautman, and Michael Burton. Now, he's looking to add another familiar name to that list: "Swiss Army Knife" tight end Taysom Hill, who remains a free agent after nine seasons in New Orleans.

Speculation that the Broncos could sign Hill caught fire over the weekend when Payton said in an interview with NFL Network that the team would explore the idea. But on Monday, he cooled any talk of a reunion.

"There's no hurry right now. I'm going to see him [in Canton] in five days," Payton said. "We'll see where he's at and kind of go from there ... The key thing is his health and, you know, where he's at mentally. I don't want to assume he wants to play."

Hill remains one of the most versatile tight ends the league has ever seen. Over his NFL career, he's spent time as a blocker, receiver, quarterback, running back, and special teams contributor, accumulating 2,426 passing yards, 2,551 rushing yards, and 1,034 receiving yards. The idea of adding a weapon like that to a room that already features Evan Engram, Trautman, and rookie Justin Joly is intriguing.

But recent injuries have put his football future in question. Hill began last season on the PUP list after tearing his ACL late in 2024. He still appeared in 13 games last season and again showed off his versatility, but with Hill set to turn 36 in August, it's fair to wonder how much he has left in the tank.
