The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have several players who deserve consideration, but if you're picking the one non-quarterback they absolutely, in every way need in 2026, it's Tristan Wirfs.

It's not the flashiest answer, perhaps. But it might be the easiest one.

Elite left tackles don't usually dominate the post-game highlights, but they're among the most valuable players on any NFL roster. Wirfs has developed into exactly that kind of player. Week after week, he's asked to protect the quarterback's blind side against the league's best pass rushers, and more often than not, he wins those matchups.

That's a big reason Tampa Bay's offense has remained so steady.

A great left tackle impacts every part of an offense. He gives the quarterback extra time in the pocket, helps establish the running game and allows the coaching staff to call plays without worrying all the time. Those contributions are impossible to ignore on film.

Tristan Wirfs #78 of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

...

The Buccaneers recognized Wirfs' value when they signed him to a long-term extension, making him one of the highest-paid offensive linemen in football. It's the kind of investment teams make only when they're convinced they've found a cornerstone.

There are certainly other players who deserve recognition. It's obviously not just a two-man show. There are plenty of great players on both offense and defense.

Still, everything on offense begins with Wirfs.

Fans naturally notice quarterbacks, receivers and running backs first, but none of them can consistently succeed without solid protection. Wirfs provides that every single Sunday, one after another.

The Buccaneers have stars across the roster, but Wirfs is the player who keeps the offense on track. That's why he remains Tampa Bay's most important non-quarterback heading into this season.
