Mike McDaniel's first season as offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers is off to a disastrous start.
The Chargers offense ranks dead last in terms of points per game, averaging 15 through their 0-6 start to the year. With quarterback Justin Herbert under center, the team is averaging just 287.2 yards of total offense per contest.
In response to this brutal start, many fans and analysts have urged the Chargers to fire McDaniel and move on to a new coordinator under head coach Jim Harbaugh.

McDaniel responded to those calls for his job when speaking to reporters on Thursday.
“You can’t have your cake and eat it too," McDaniel said, via team reporter Alex Insdorf. "You have to produce results or there’s gonna be heat.”
Harbaugh recently confirmed that McDaniel will remain the offensive play caller moving forward, despite the team's ineffectiveness so far this season.
This coming Sunday, the Chargers will look to notch their first win of the 2026 season in a difficult matchup against the crosstown-rival Los Angeles Rams.
