The Kansas City Chiefs have received some much-needed positive news on Rashee Rice, with the wide receiver reportedly cleared to participate in training camp after undergoing offseason knee surgery.
Rice underwent a procedure on his right knee earlier this offseason to remove loose debris that had been causing inflammation. The timing created some concern, particularly because Rice was also serving a 30-day jail sentence in Texas at the time while rehabbing the injury.
He missed the Chiefs' voluntary offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp while dealing with the knee issue.

Yet, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Rice is expected to be ready when Kansas City begins training camp next Tuesday, July 28, at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Rice missed the first six games of the 2025 NFL season while serving a suspension stemming from his involvement in a 2024 high-speed crash in Dallas. After returning, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns across 11 games, averaging 10.8 yards per reception, a career low.
Those numbers were well below what the Chiefs had hoped for. Kansas City had selected Rice in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and he immediately took off, catching 79 passes for 939 yards and seven touchdowns across 16 games as a rookie, averaging 11.9 yards per catch.
He missed most of the 2024 campaign with a severe knee injury and then appeared in just eight games last year due to the suspension and lingering concussion symptoms at the end of the season.
With him now entering the final year of his rookie contract, 2026 is gearing up to be a big year for Rice, and he appears to be all systems go for camp.

Having Rice ready to roll is a big boost for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who's also been cleared for camp after suffering a torn ACL and LCL last year.
The Chiefs are entering a crucial 2026 season after going 6-11 last year and missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade. Getting two of their best players back for camp is a big step in the right direction.
