It seems impossible, but the Kansas City Chiefs will no longer play at Arrowhead Stadium, their home since 1972, in the not-so-distant future.

Last December, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and Kansas governor Laura Kelly announced that the Chiefs would move to a yet-to-be-built dome in Kansas come the 2031 NFL season.

It completes a lengthy process in which the Chiefs focused on choosing between two specific sites: moving to a state-of-the-art domed stadium in Kansas or renovating Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri," The Athletic's Jesse Newell reported at the time. "The new stadium was previously projected to cost $3 billion, while a renovated Arrowhead Stadium would’ve been the cheaper option at roughly $1 billion."

The Chiefs revealed their initial renderings of the $3 billion stadium on Wednesday, July 22.

"A legacy reimagined," the Chiefs' post reads. "Every detail of our new stadium honors our past as we innovate for the future. Our home will amplify 70,000 of the world’s loudest fans, facilitate world-class tailgating, and preserve our unrivaled homefield advantage."

Many Chiefs fans aren't buying it, with a significant chunk of them saying the new stadium design resembles a Pringles chip. While a few fans here and there praised that it looks like a "modernized Arrowhead," most people just wish they'd kept the original Arrowhead.

"Love that it looks like a modernized Arrowhead," Tanner Tolbert commented on Instagram. "Great capacity at 70K… and most importantly -the parking spaces- keep that tailgate tradition alive. Well done."

"Just like the Broncos renderings," a fan named Izzy commented. "And the Bears, Titans, Commanders, Jags…"

"Oh look, another cookie-cutter stadium," an Instagram user named Shawn commented.

"As a lifelong fan thank you for ruining the best stadium and home field advantage in the league," an Instagram user named Ryan wrote.

"I still absolutely hate the Chiefs (or any cold-weather team) playing inside, but this is better," Sports Illustrated NFL writer Matt Verderame posted on X. "It's basically Arrowhead with a clear roof."

"Today we are excited to show Chiefs Kingdom a first look at our new home," Hunt said in an official written statement. "From the beginning, our goal has been to build something that improved the gameday experience for every single fan. This new stadium will do just that. It's spectacular. It honors the rich legacy of this franchise while setting a bold course for the future of Chiefs Kingdom.

"While we're still finalizing many of the details, there are a few things we know for sure: it will hold 70,000 fans, it will still be the best place in the world to tailgate, and the whole building will be built for noise."

Time will tell, but Chiefs brass have a long way to go in winning over the fan base in their decision to leave one of the most iconic (and loudest) stadiums in the NFL.
