The Kansas City Chiefs are out of the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, so on Sunday, the team will play its final game of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders with nothing on the line.
On Christmas Day, the Chiefs played against the Denver Broncos on the road and lost that game 20-13. Now, to add insult to injury, one Chiefs player is being punished by the NFL for his actions in that game.
Every week during the season, the NFL gives punishments to players for actions that took place during the previous week's games. The NFL states on their official website that these actions are "to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity."

Before the season starts, the NFL and NFL Players Association agree on the set of game-related rules violations that result in these accountability measures.

On Saturday, the NFL announced that its fining Chiefs starting left guard Kingsley Suamataia $8,108 for unnecessary roughness (striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing) at the 12:49 mark in the second quarter of the game.
The good news is that the funds raised from those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to "support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game."
If Suamataia wants to appeal the fine, he's allowed to. According to the NFL, "Cases are heard by appeals officers and former NFL players, Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson, who are jointly appointed and paid by the NFL/NFLPA. The decisions made are final and binding."
Suamataia's move wasn't nearly severe enough to get suspended, so he'll appear in the team's game on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
