The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense has held up its end of the bargain this season, allowing just the third-fewest points in the NFL (17.2 points per game).
However, the offense — more specifically the wide receiver room — is a different story.
With Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton sidelined by injuries, Patrick Mahomes and the offense managed just three points in a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the first of back-to-back road defeats that dropped Kansas City from 5-0 to 5-2.

With the Nov. 10 trade deadline fast approaching, the Chiefs have been linked to several receivers, including Jacksonville Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. and Tennessee Titans WR Calvin Ridley.
However, one name keeps coming up more than the rest: Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs, who recently requested to be traded.

...
The latest to tab Kansas City as the landing spot for Downs is Fox Sports’ Eric Williams, who predicted the 25-year-old wideout ultimately ends up with the Chiefs after the deadline.
“Kansas City has Travis Kelce to work the middle of the field — and that’s about it,” Williams wrote. “Mahomes could use a sure-handed, twitchy route runner who can get open on got-to-have-it situations and move the chains for the Chiefs. So, it makes sense that the Chiefs have shown interest in Downs, and ultimately, I believe he lands there.”
One front office executive told Williams that Downs would give KC “less of a miss factor” than Thomas Jr., who’s also been floated as a possible Chiefs trade target.
"Downs gives them a consistent short-to-immediate threat," the personnel executive said. "Neither [Thomas nor Downs] will provide a high-volume target [for the Chiefs]. That will come in the draft next year."

...
Williams isn’t alone either.
Multiple sources told Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano the Chiefs are interested in Downs, though Vacchiano personally believes he ends up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also floated a hypothetical deal sending Downs to Kansas City for a 2027 fourth-round pick, and Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer said Downs “would loom as a possibility” for the Chiefs.
