The Dallas Cowboys may have an excellent complement to tight end Jake Ferguson at training camp this year.

Ferguson does almost all of the pass catching when it comes to Cowboys tight ends, but that could change if undrafted free agent Michael Trigg reaches his potential. Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport tabbed him as the most likely UDFA to make the Cowboys roster and for good reason, as a matchup nightmare.

Trigg is 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds. The Tampa native had 108 receptions for 1,419 yards and 14 touchdowns in his collegiate career with USC, Ole Miss and Baylor.

Davenport noted that Bleacher Report's Daniel Harms gave Trigg high grades, and Harms wasn't alone on that evaluation. Many outlets graded Trigg as a second- or third-day draft prospect and considered him one of the better tight ends available.

"Trigg is a matchup problem for defenses," Harms wrote. "The hybrid target already displays the nuance and route detail to immediately contribute in an NFL offense."

"He's a route craftsman, who uses explosive movements in the stem to attack leverage," Harms added. "He manipulates defenders well, and his feel at the top of routes is clean."

The Cowboys have a steal if the coaching staff can get him to overcome his issues with focus and dropping balls. Dallas doesn't need him to be the second or third tight end either, but he could be an excellent tight end to insert on offense when needed for an extra pass catcher.

That said, the tougher part to fix with Trigg will be off the field, as he had two suspensions in college, as Davenport noted. Whether or not Trigg has righted the ship in this area remains to be seen as he embarks on his pro career, but his chance at a fresh start in Big D is available to him now.
