Joseph was drafted in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. The East Carolina University product spent four seasons with the Giants, accruing 175 tackles and nine sacks in 53 games. He was a full-time starter from 2011-13 and was part of their Super Bowl-winning team in the 2011-12 season. He had two tackles and one quarterback hit in the Super Bowl, a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots.

In 2014, Joseph signed a five-year, $31.5 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. Joseph spent six seasons with the Vikings and enjoyed his most success there, securing 350 tackles and 15 sacks across 88 games, all starts.

Joseph was named a Pro Bowl in both the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In 2016, he had 77 tackles, four sacks, and 17 quarterback hits. In 2017, he had 68 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 10 quarterback hits. Joseph signed a four-year, $50 million extension with the Vikings ahead of the 2017 season.

Joseph spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers after signing a two-year deal in free agency. He played with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, before joining the Bills last season. The Cowboys will be his sixth team overall, and third NFC East team.

The Cowboys have been active in bolstering the defensive line as of late. Last week, the Cowboys made two additions to the line, signing veteran defensive end Carl Lawson and trading for veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips.

Those guys will all be competing for spots on a defensive line that's one of the NFL's best, headlined by three-time Pro Bowler and 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons. Alongside Parsons, the Cowboys have DeMarcus Lawrence, Osa Odighizuwa, and Mazi Smith currently listed as starters on the unofficial depth chart.

The Cowboys had 46 sacks as a team in 2023, which was 13th-best in the league. Parsons was responsible for 14 of them, so the Cowboys are looking for additional pass rushers to help out their superstar outside linebacker.
