It’s no secret that ESPN analyst and former quarterback Dan Orlovsky believes Alabama’s Ty Simpson is a better quarterback prospect than Indiana star Fernando Mendoza.

He’s made that stance clear on several occasions, despite Mendoza still being viewed as the projected No. 1 overall pick to the Las Vegas Raiders.

However, during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday, Orlovsky sparked further controversy by suggesting Simpson has played in more “big games” than Mendoza — a claim quickly challenged by Pat McAfee and the rest of the show’s crew, who pointed to Mendoza’s experience on the biggest stage, including a national championship run.

“What biggest games, Pat? What biggest games?” Orlovsky said when McAfee referenced Mendoza playing in high-stakes matchups.

“Yeah, those SEC games are bigger than the [expletive] playoff games, Dan,” McAfee fired back. “So the College Football Playoff is a mockery? A scam? Those games don’t matter? What do you mean, what are the biggest games? They have a whole [expletive] committee. They have billions of dollars in TV rights tied to what the biggest games are.”

Orlovsky then pointed to Mendoza’s performance in what he described as his first “big game,” referencing the Big Ten Championship against Ohio State, where Indiana scored just six points through the first three quarters before ultimately winning 13–10.

“I’m giving you factual information, not opinion. They had six points through the first three quarters in the Big Ten title game. That’s a fact,” Orlovsky added.

Orlovsky’s comments drew significant backlash from college football fans, many of whom don’t understand the consistent criticism directed at Mendoza.

“Before this clip, I wouldn’t have said it, but now he’s just being a hater. Why so intent on downplaying everything Mendoza accomplished?” one fan said.

Another added, “Pat is spitting facts lol. Dan’s argument is falling apart.”

One person wrote, “If Mendoza ends up being good, Orlovsky might have to retire from QB analysis. This might be one of the craziest takes I’ve ever seen.”

“Dan is such a clown!! Going back and forth over six points in three quarters when Ty Simpson had HOW MANY POINTS???? in a full game against Indiana? He hated that,” another fan commented.
