It’s a rough week to be Dave Portnoy.
Things started going south for the Barstool Sports founder last Thursday when he famously declared he bet on Rutgers to beat UMass by 40 points. UMass ended up winning 37-21.
“I made my 1st bet of college football season and it may be my strongest play of the year. Rutgers -29.5 to beat UMass by 40 plus,” Portnoy said.

Things only got worse for Portnoy, a noted New England Patriots fan, moments before Wednesday’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Portnoy made some bold Patriots predictions before the game, and to his dismay, none of them came true.
“Drake Maye stakes his claim for mvp tonight. Aj Brown stakes his claim as acquisition of the year. Patriots crush the schedule merchants narrative. Mike Vrabel is laser focused in opener. Tonight is the 1st step to LA #patriotfootball,” Portnoy posted on X.
He followed that message up with another wild prediction: “Its early but 17-0 isnt out of the question.”

...
Not only did Maye not deliver an MVP-caliber performance (he threw three interceptions), Brown was a near non-factor int he game before leaving int he third quarter with an injury, and Vrabel was flat out-coached by Mike Macdonald.
NFL fans didn’t hesitate to pounce on Portnoy’s misfortune. Several users flocked to the comment section to roast Portnoy over his poorly aged Patriots declarations.
“Don’t feel bad. You can’t expect your ‘MVP candidate’ to go toe-to-toe with Drew Lock. That’s asking a lot,” one fan quipped.
“Did not age well! The self-anointed ‘Best Predictor of the NFL’ took some hits this past week. First, the Michigan fiasco and now this….nowhere but up from the bottom, Dave!” another fan noted.
“Maybe you should just go back to being the pizza review guy, this whole sports thing isn't working out too well for you,” a third fan scoffed.
“Aged like milk in the Texas sun lmao,” one user laughed.
“Holy crap I have no idea how barstool is a legitimate company. Every take of yours is worse than the last one,” another user replied.
“Wooof. What was worse, the game or this take?” asked another user.
